Public school teachers are set to hold a rally at Mendiola near Malacañang on the first day of classes to call for a P15,000 across-the-board salary increase, with around 100 teachers joining after morning duties to avoid disrupting lessons.
The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition said the protest highlights long-standing concerns over heavy workloads, low pay, and additional responsibilities tied to various education programs and reforms.
The group emphasized that improving teachers’ welfare should be part of broader education reforms, while similar symbolic actions will be held in other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education said about 45,000 schools and 900,000 teachers will benefit from new reforms, including a revised school calendar, simplified lesson planning, and updated assessment policies.
It also noted that teachers will receive a P10,000 teaching allowance under the existing law to help cover class expenses.
