Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna said she is ready for the World Chess Olympiad after dominating the Women’s Invitational in Alicia, Isabela.
Frayna won the tournament unbeaten with 11.5 points from 13 games, including 10 wins and three draws, finishing 2.5 points ahead of runner-up Shania Mae Mendoza.
The 30-year-old will join Mendoza, Ruelle Canino, Mhage Sebastian and Jan Jodilyn Fronda in representing the Philippines at the Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The team aims to match or surpass its Group B gold-medal finish at the previous Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, two years ago.
Frayna said the victory reminded her of her 2016 national championship win and thanked those who continued to support her.
