CHRISTOPHER DE LEON RECALLS CAREER BEGINNINGS IN ‘TINIMBANG KA NGUNIT KULANG’

Actor Christopher de Leon revisited his first film, Lino Brocka’s 1974 classic “Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang,” 52 years after it launched his showbiz career.

The film marked several firsts for de Leon, including his first acting role, first onscreen kiss with Laurice Guillen, and first Best Actor award from FAMAS at age 19.

De Leon and Guillen attended a special screening of the film’s 4K digitally restored version, which opened the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ Philippine Film Industry Month celebration.

He said the film remains meaningful for its portrayal of social hypocrisy and recalled learning from Brocka and veteran actors Lolita Rodriguez and Mario O’Hara.

After seeing the film for only the second time, de Leon expressed renewed appreciation for the work and gratitude to those who guided him at the start of his acting career.
