Selected local government units (LGUs) in the country have been authorized to directly handle classroom construction projects under the Department of Education’s (DepEd) program to speed up the delivery of school facilities and address classroom shortages.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said 14 provinces have been cleared to start procurement after signing supplemental agreements, allowing them to manage construction while DepEd provides technical supervision and oversight.
The initiative covers provinces such as Ifugao, Sorsogon, Pangasinan, and Misamis Oriental, with more agreements expected in the coming weeks as DepEd expands coverage nationwide.
LGUs will act as procuring entities responsible for construction, fund management, and compliance, supported by training and technical workshops to ensure proper implementation.
The program is anchored on the 2026 national budget and complements other efforts, including a ₱17.27-billion allocation for nearly 5,000 classrooms and public-private partnership projects.
The government said the expanded LGU-led approach aims to accelerate classroom building and ease overcrowding in
public schools.
