Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Wednesday urged the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) to review and strictly enforce its policies against hazing to prevent similar incidents in the institution.
His call came after the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group filed charges against seven PNPA cadets for alleged violations of the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 involving the maltreatment of 22 fellow cadets.
The complaints have been submitted to the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Cavite for further proceedings.
Gatchalian welcomed the filing of the cases, calling it a step toward justice and accountability while stressing that abuse and violence should not be tolerated in a law enforcement training institution.
He also emphasized the need to eliminate the culture of violence within the PNPA to ensure discipline, integrity, and respect for the law.
