Vice President Sara Duterte’s legal counsel said the House committee on justice hearing and NBI presentation revealed “weak” evidence against her, claiming the materials were “curated, spliced,” and lacked proper context.
The NBI had earlier confirmed testimony linking Duterte to alleged assassination threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the First Lady, and a relative, with agents also authenticating related video evidence.
Despite the defense’s criticism, the House panel found probable cause in two impeachment complaints against Duterte and moved to consolidate them.
Duterte’s legal team said she will not attend the May 4 House hearing, insisting the proceedings are unconstitutional and that she will respond during the Senate impeachment trial.
Meanwhile, her sister, Kitty Duterte, defended her, saying she is “not a thief” and expressing confidence that she will withstand the allegations.
