President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and former Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio reaffirmed the Philippines and Japan’s cooperation on energy transition and resilience amid ongoing global energy disruptions.
During Kishida’s courtesy call in Malacañang, Marcos stressed the urgency of energy security due to Middle East tensions affecting global supply and thanked Japan for its continued support in fuel supply.
Both leaders discussed accelerating the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy under the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) framework.
Kishida reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to deeper energy and economic cooperation with the Philippines and expressed interest in co-hosting an AZEC leaders’ meeting in November.
Marcos is also set to undertake a state visit to Japan next month, signaling continued high-level engagement between the two countries.
