The ambassador said the information came from the US State Department, although the US Embassy in Manila declined to comment, citing confidentiality rules on visa records.
A separate report said Romualdez’s A-1 diplomatic visa and B1/B2 tourist visa were cancelled several weeks earlier and that several Philippine government agencies were also informed.
The Leyte lawmaker is currently under investigation over alleged involvement in the misuse of public funds tied to flood control projects and the budget process.
He has denied the allegations and is facing possible charges, including conspiracy to commit plunder and malversation through falsification, alongside asset freezes and a provisional hold order.
