ROMUALDEZ CAMP FLAGS ALLEGED OMBUDSMAN ‘PREJUDGEMENT’

Lawyer Ade Fajardo accused Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla of prejudging former House Speaker Martin Romualdez by calling him the “mastermind” of the flood control corruption scandal.

Fajardo said the remarks could create the impression that Remulla had concluded the preliminary investigation and evaluation of evidence were completed.

Romualdez’s lawyers have asked Remulla to inhibit from the case, citing his public statements and concerns over fairness and impartiality.

Meanwhile, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada said he would pursue all legal remedies to clear his name after the Sandiganbayan allowed former public works chief Manuel Bonoan to be dropped as a co-accused in plunder and graft cases.

The Palace said it respects the court’s decision, while militant group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan criticized the ruling.
