COMELEC HAS FINISHED PROBE INTO MARCOLETA CAMPAIGN DONATIONS – GARCIA

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday that it had already exercised its jurisdiction over Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s P75-million campaign donation case, which later became the basis of a plunder complaint against him.

Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia made the statement after Marcoleta asked that the case be returned to the poll body instead of being handled by the Sandiganbayan.

Garcia said the Comelec had already determined whether Marcoleta had liability, while the poll body’s Political Finance and Affairs Department earlier recommended ending the investigation due to insufficient evidence of an election offense.

The case stemmed from Marcoleta’s admission that he did not declare campaign contributions after donors requested anonymity, although he said the P75 million was received before the 2025 campaign period.

Garcia said the Comelec remains willing to handle the case again if it is returned, but maintained that the poll body had already performed its duty.
