President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inaugurated two new government facilities in Cebu to accelerate aid delivery, including the Pag-Abot Processing Center in Liloan and the upgraded Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) in Mandaue City.
The VDRC’s P117-million Mechanized Production System can now produce up to 30,000 family food packs per eight-hour shift, tripling its previous output and ensuring longer shelf life through vacuum sealing.
Marcos highlighted that the national government can now directly provide food packs, supporting disaster response, fire emergencies, and volcanic-affected areas, with four million packs already in storage.
The Visayas hub complements existing disaster centers in Luzon and Mindanao, with plans underway for a permanent Mindanao Disaster Resource Center in Butuan City.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian emphasized that the program brings government services closer to vulnerable communities, upholding the principle that “no one will be left behind.”
