Senator Francis Pangilinan condemned China’s sanctions against Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., calling them an attack on the Philippines’ sovereignty and government.
He said sanctioning a Cabinet official for carrying out national policy undermines the country’s constitutional order and legal rights.
Pangilinan described the move as part of China’s pattern of coercion and intimidation against the Philippines.
He urged the Department of Foreign Affairs to formally protest the sanctions and expressed solidarity with Teodoro.
The senator also reaffirmed support for the Philippines’ maritime rights ahead of the anniversary of the 2016 arbitral ruling.
