The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) raised alarm after a 34-year-old man died in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City, allegedly while attempting to steal live electrical cables early Saturday, April 25.
The incident also caused a power outage affecting more than 6,000 customers in the area.
Meralco crews immediately conducted repair operations, restoring electricity after nearly two hours.
The company reiterated that theft of electrical facilities is dangerous and strictly prohibited, urging the public to report suspicious activities involving power infrastructure.
Meralco also reminded that violators face penalties under Republic Act No. 7832, while buyers of stolen materials may be held liable under the Anti-Fencing Law.
