The Department of Public Works and Highways said its referral of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez to the Office of the Ombudsman was based on contracts, project records, and testimonies tied to an investigation into alleged flood-control anomalies.
Secretary Vince Dizon said the submission is part of a broader probe involving projects linked to contractor Sunwest Inc. and its founder, fugitive former lawmaker Zaldy Co.
He added that the evidence includes documents from multiple infrastructure projects and findings from Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearings.
Dizon noted that earlier cases against Co have already led to his indictment, an arrest warrant, and the cancellation of his passport.
He also said the Ombudsman’s move to freeze assets linked to Romualdez shows the seriousness of the ongoing investigation.
