Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez will remain at Cardinal Santos Medical Center as the Sandiganbayan continues to hear his request for continued hospital confinement.
The court will resume the hearing on September 11, when Romualdez’s doctors are expected to explain his medical condition, including concerns that he is at high risk of a heart attack.
The prosecution has opposed his request and asked that independent government doctors assess him before he is transferred to a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility.
Although the BJMP has taken custody of Romualdez, his transfer to the New Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory remains on hold while the court resolves his hospital-confinement motion.
Romualdez, who faces a P7.44-billion plunder case over alleged kickbacks from government infrastructure projects, is scheduled for arraignment and pretrial on September 14.
