Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said he is taking extreme precautions to prevent information leaks during the manhunt for gaming tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang, including using small, cellphone-free teams and enforcing strict body camera protocols.
Ang is wanted for kidnapping in Laguna and Batangas in connection with the disappearance of at least 34 cockfighting enthusiasts.
Remulla confirmed that some active and retired police officers have been aiding Ang, though he declined to name them, noting the highest rank among the implicated cops is a sergeant.
Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. assured the public that the police remain committed to the manhunt and will not tolerate misconduct within their ranks.
Authorities have raided at least six locations in pursuit of Ang, whose last known location was in Mandaluyong City with his lawyer, while Remulla is avoiding NBI assistance due to Ang’s extensive connections within the bureau.
