The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced it will prioritize improving nutrition for children during their first 1,000 days of life.
This follows the Senate’s approval of the DILG’s P287.4-billion budget for 2026, which includes P357 million for the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Council, set to become an attached agency next year.
The DILG plans to collaborate with local government units to enhance feeding programs and expand nutrition services in child development centers (CDCs).
Currently, over 28,000 barangays have CDCs, and the DILG aims to increase this number.
Under Republic Act No. 12199, LGUs are tasked with implementing ECCD programs to ensure proper child nutrition.
