The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the US government launched a P140 million, three-year program to boost the PCG’s operational readiness and maritime law enforcement capacity.
The initiative, led by PCG Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan and US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson, includes 110 training courses and on-the-job training for PCG personnel in the US, funded by the US Department of State.
Nearly 60 additional courses will be conducted in the Philippines to improve vessel operations, maintenance, and training programs.
Both leaders emphasized that the program strengthens professionalism, interoperability, and US-Philippine maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The initiative builds on existing partnerships and aims to enhance the PCG’s skills and fleet capabilities through shared expertise and leadership development.
