NATIONWIDE FIRETRUCK DEPLOYMENT SET AS DILG TARGETS 1,500 UNITS

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) plans to complete the nationwide rollout of 1,500 new firetrucks within 18 months, Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Thursday.

The deployment aims to address gaps in firefighting equipment and strengthen emergency response capabilities across the country.

A 2025 Commission on Audit report found that 119 municipalities had no activated fire station, while 11 had no firetrucks as of December 31, 2024.

Remulla said the firetrucks will be acquired through a government-to-government transaction with South Korea.

He said the program is expected to ensure all municipalities are equipped with firetrucks and provide better protection for communities nationwide.
