President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. launched the “Biyayang Bigas” program in Manila on April 16, reiterating his goal of eliminating hunger in the Philippines by the end of his term.
The initiative is part of the government’s food security efforts amid rising prices, with around ₱15 billion already allocated and 80,000 beneficiaries in Manila set to receive rice assistance.
Each qualified household will receive 10 kilos of rice six times a year, with the program implemented through the Local Government Support Fund for faster distribution.
Marcos said local governments will identify beneficiaries to ensure aid reaches those most in need and reduce bureaucratic delays.
He added that the program aims to cushion the impact of rising oil and food prices, which continue to affect Filipino families.
