The Department of Education (DepEd) is planning to install solar panels in public school rooftops by 2027 as part of efforts to conserve energy amid a national energy emergency, Secretary Sonny Angara said.
He said the proposal is being studied as a long-term solution that would help reduce electricity use in schools and support national energy conservation efforts.
However, Angara noted that there is currently no budget allocated for large-scale solarization this year, with funding likely dependent on future budgets or savings.
He added that the project could realistically begin next year if resources are secured.
Despite the energy concerns, DepEd is still leaning toward holding face-to-face classes in June.
