Labor groups and human rights organizations held their annual Labor Day protest in Manila on Friday, demanding a P1,200 minimum wage increase and the removal of VAT and fuel excise taxes amid the ongoing oil crisis.
Led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and Kilusang Mayo Uno, protesters gathered along España Boulevard for the mass action.
Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Sarah Elago said sustained protests are necessary to push for workers’ rights.
She emphasized that many human rights gains were achieved through collective action.
The groups said continued mobilization is key to pressing for wage and tax reforms.
