The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said it will challenge the temporary restraining order (TRO) that halted the implementation of the P85 minimum wage increase in Metro Manila.
Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino said the agency is coordinating with the Office of the Solicitor General to defend the validity of the wage order, which provides for a P60 increase this year and an additional P25 in 2027.
The TRO, issued by the Pasig City Regional Trial Court, stemmed from a petition by two construction firms that argued the wage hike would negatively affect their operations.
DOLE assured workers who already received the increase that they would not be required to return the additional pay or face salary deductions.
A hearing on the petition for a preliminary injunction is scheduled for Aug. 3.
