Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian said the Senate received intelligence information indicating a possible armed group could attempt to disrupt activities in the chamber, prompting heightened security measures and a temporary work-from-home setup for employees.
He said the information was relayed during a recent Blue Ribbon Committee consultative meeting after it was raised by National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag.
Gatchalian added that although details were not fully disclosed, the report suggested the possibility of armed individuals causing disturbance inside the Senate.
He said security was immediately reinforced with additional personnel and support from the Philippine National Police, and coordination with intelligence agencies was ordered to validate the threat.
The Senate official stressed that the measures were implemented out of caution to ensure the safety of lawmakers, staff, and visitors while investigations continue.
