President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to seek a stronger partnership with Vietnam, particularly in defense and maritime cooperation, during his bilateral meeting with Vietnamese President To Lam.
To Lam, who is also the Communist Party’s general secretary, will arrive in Manila for a two-day state visit marking the first visit of a Vietnamese party leader to the Philippines.
His visit includes a wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument and official arrival honors at Malacañang before talks with Marcos.
The meeting comes as the two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations and a decade of strategic partnership.
Vietnam is the Philippines’ sole strategic partner in Southeast Asia, with plans to open a Philippine consulate general in Ho Chi Minh by mid-2026.
