The national government has allocated around P386.6 million for livelihood and emergency employment assistance in areas affected by widespread flooding caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said the funds are expected to benefit 49,879 workers across the country.
The Office of Civil Defense reported that about 2.2 million families, or 7.7 million people, have been affected by the floods, with more than 8,200 families still staying in evacuation centers.
DOLE Secretary Francis Tolentino said the assistance will be delivered through the TUPAD and DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) to provide temporary income and help affected workers rebuild their livelihoods.
TUPAD will offer short-term employment through community clean-up activities, while DILP will provide livelihood support for small enterprises such as farming, food vending, fishing, livestock, and repair services.
