POA SAYS NO TRANSFER OF DEPED CONFIDENTIAL FUNDS TO AFP

Michael Poa, a former Department of Education undersecretary, testified that the Armed Forces of the Philippines never received confidential funds from the agency when Vice President Sara Duterte headed DepEd.

Poa said no confidential funds were disbursed for the military’s Youth Leadership Summits and Information Education Communication programs.

His testimony came as the impeachment court examined the use of AFP certifications to support the liquidation of P15.54 million in DepEd confidential funds in 2023.

Poa also said AFP officers were unaware that their certifications would later be used for the liquidation of the funds, while senators questioned alleged violations in the handling of confidential fund documents.

Meanwhile, the House prosecution panel is considering dropping the bribery charge against Duterte to shorten the impeachment trial, with prosecutors aiming to finish presenting evidence on the remaining charges by early October.
