EJ OBIENA BAGS SILVER IN GERMANY POLE VAULT MEET

Two-time Olympian EJ Obiena captured silver at the 2026 Domspringen Wesel International Pole Vault Meeting in Germany on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

Obiena cleared 5.75 meters to finish second in the eight-man field, behind France’s Robin Emig, who won with 5.80 meters, while American Cole Walsh took bronze at 5.70 meters.

The Filipino pole vaulter said fatigue caught up with him after competing in six events over the past 14 days, noting that mistakes on the earlier bars affected his performance.

Obiena had won gold in Berlin two days earlier with a 5.82-meter clearance and had already qualified for the 2027 World Championships after clearing 5.90 meters in Zurich.

He is now preparing to defend his title at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan later this month.
