The Department of Health (DOH) advised the public to wear masks, limit strenuous outdoor activities, and take other precautions as haze affects air quality in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
The agency urged residents to monitor air quality advisories from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau and local governments.
The DOH also warned vulnerable groups, including children, older adults, pregnant women and people with heart or lung conditions, to take extra precautions.
DENR reported that parts of the Visayas and Mindanao reached air quality levels ranging from “very unhealthy” to “acutely unhealthy,” while Metro Manila generally recorded “good” to “fair” conditions.
The haze also prompted the Quezon City government to suspend public school classes on Tuesday after “unhealthy” air quality was recorded in the city.
