PH EXPORT OUTLOOK BRIGHTENS ON ELECTRONICS, SERVICES DEMAND

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) expects Philippine exports to exceed government targets this year as overseas demand remains strong.

Goods exports rose nearly 13% from January to July to $54.92 billion, with electronics accounting for more than 63% of the total.

Service exports also grew 4% year-on-year in the first quarter to $12.79 billion.

DTI is urging exporters to maximize free trade agreements and preferential trade programs, including the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme.

The agency is also exploring a possible bilateral free trade agreement with the UK after the Philippines eventually exits the scheme.
