President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (PBBM) administered the oath of office to Mel Senen Sarmiento as the new Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity in a ceremony at Malacañan Palace.
Sarmiento replaced former secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., who stepped down from the post citing personal reasons, including his wife’s health and family commitments.
In his new role, Sarmiento is tasked with overseeing the country’s peace process, advancing negotiations, and supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of former rebels under the “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda.
He previously served in various government positions, including Interior and Local Government secretary under the late President Benigno Aquino III, as well as mayor, congressman, and vice mayor in Calbayog City and Samar.
Malacañang said his extensive experience in local governance and public administration prepares him well for the responsibilities of the post.
