Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is seeking regulatory approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to refund over ₱9 billion to customers following a true-up calculation for the 2025 lapsed period.
The proposed refund covers ₱4.69 billion for January to June 2025 and ₱4.32 billion for July to December 2025, which could lower electricity rates by about ₱0.09 per kilowatt-hour over three years.
The refund would appear as a separate line item in customer bills once approved, while hearings on the application are set for May 5 and 12.
Meralco has also asked for provisional authority to implement the refund immediately, as it serves over eight million customers across several provinces.
Meanwhile, consumer groups are urging regulators to address rising electricity costs and protect consumers amid ongoing energy price pressures.
