President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the release of P17.27 billion to accelerate classroom construction and address shortages in basic education nationwide.
The funds were approved on April 13 by Rolando Toledo of the Department of Budget and Management and allocated to the Department of Education through a Special Allotment Release Order.
The amount will finance the construction of 4,960 classrooms, including essential furniture and fixtures, to ease overcrowding in schools.
Sourced from the P85.40 billion Basic Education Facilities Fund under the 2026 national budget, the initiative aims to close the country’s classroom gap and improve learning conditions.
Officials said the program also strengthens collaboration with local government units to ensure accessible, safe, and quality education for all learners.
