The Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered four doctors of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez to testify on his medical condition as the court considers whether he should remain under hospital confinement.
The court scheduled the hearing for September 10 and directed Romualdez and his doctors to submit the results of his medical examinations during his hospital stay.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla is opposing his continued confinement at Cardinal Santos Medical Center and plans to seek his transfer to the Philippine National Police General Hospital, where he can continue receiving medical care under custody.
Authorities stressed that Romualdez will not receive special treatment, while the CIDG has returned his arrest warrant and medical evaluation to the Sandiganbayan after completing his booking procedures.
Meanwhile, the NBI has formed a special action unit to serve arrest warrants against Romualdez’s co-accused, including former lawmaker Zaldy Co, Joselyn Serenio, and Felicito Guevarra.
