The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is seeking an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order against Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste and six others over an alleged scheme to frame Executive Secretary Ralph Recto in a supposed “honey trap.”
NBI Director Melvin Matibag said Leviste was last reported in France after traveling from Switzerland and that authorities want to prevent the respondents from evading legal proceedings.
The NBI filed qualified human trafficking charges against Leviste and the other respondents on September 4 in connection with the alleged plot.
Matibag said Philippine authorities may coordinate with embassies and Interpol once arrest warrants are issued, although securing the suspects could be difficult if they seek asylum abroad.
The NBI urged Leviste to return to the Philippines and face the charges against him.
