President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has released P1 billion for Project NOAH to strengthen flood management, hazard monitoring, impact-based forecasting, and disaster risk reduction amid worsening climate-related risks.
The funding will support high-resolution hazard mapping, flood assessments, LiDAR drone surveys, AI-powered disaster analytics, and other scientific initiatives aimed at helping communities prepare for disasters.
The DPWH is also working with Project NOAH, local governments, and other agencies to update flood management master plans using current climate data and detailed hazard maps.
Project NOAH expects its improved forecasting system to identify areas likely to experience flooding and its potential impact on roads, homes, buildings, and traffic up to a day in advance.
Officials said the investment is intended to strengthen science-based governance, improve long-term flood resilience, and reduce disaster-related deaths, damage, and losses.
