The government has tapped natural gas, oil, and coal-fired power plants after outages from major generators triggered a yellow alert in the Luzon grid.
Sharon Garin ordered generation companies, including a joint venture of San Miguel Global Power, Aboitiz Power, and Meralco PowerGen, to immediately restore affected units.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) issued the alert after several plants, including Ilijan Blocks and units of Excellent Energy Resources Inc., went on forced outage, reducing power reserves below safe levels.
To stabilize supply, the Department of Energy mobilized additional oil, gas, and coal plants, including facilities now operated by Prime CoreGen under Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc.
Authorities continue working to return offline plants and prevent further disruptions as multiple facilities remain unavailable or operating at reduced capacity.
