Senator Erwin Tulfo urged oil companies to practice full transparency and stop imposing premature price hikes on petroleum products amid the Middle East conflict.
He criticized firms for passing the burden to consumers and highlighted reports of gas stations allegedly delaying operations to wait for higher prices.
Tulfo pushed for the passage of Senate Bill No. 641, which would allow the Department of Energy (DOE) to require oil firms to submit actual cost components when crude oil prices hit a certain threshold.
The measure aims to close gaps left by the current Oil Deregulation Law and protect consumers from arbitrary pricing.
Tulfo emphasized that institutionalizing cost transparency will help Filipinos understand and verify why fuel prices are set at specific levels.
