HOUSE BEGINS 2027 BUDGET DELIBERATIONS NEXT WEEK

The House of Representatives will begin deliberations on the proposed P7.2-trillion national budget for 2027 on Aug. 17, with hearings set to run until Oct. 9.

House appropriations committee chair Mikaela Angela Suansing said the process will include a “people’s budget review” involving civil society groups and other stakeholders.

Speaker Faustino Dy III vowed a thorough review of the budget and said safeguards will be used to prevent questionable insertions and leakages.

The House will also continue reforms such as the Budget Amendments and Review Subcommittee and livestreaming of bicameral meetings.

Lawmakers are also pushing for the early approval of the CADENA digital budget portal to improve transparency in government spending.
