The Philippine U-20 men’s saber team defeated Thailand, 45-40, to win gold at the Southeast Asian Fencing Federation Juniors Fencing Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Khiane Nash Felipe gave the Philippines an early lead with a 5-2 win in the opening bout, while Drake Anthony Chung and Vito Misael Coching extended the advantage.
Felipe later sealed the victory as the Filipinos held off Thailand’s comeback attempts.
The team, also composed of Matthew General, reached the finals after beating Indonesia, 45-23.
Coaches Gian Carlo Nocom, Edward Dalivas, and Donnie Navarro accompanied the team in the four-nation tournament.
