Sen. Erwin Tulfo is pushing a bill that would impose a “no work, no pay” policy on top government officials who are absent from work without a valid reason.
The proposed measure would cover the president, vice president, lawmakers, Cabinet secretaries, department heads, and other elected officials, including the suspension of their allowances during unauthorized absences.
Tulfo said the policy would ensure equal treatment between rank-and-file government employees and high-ranking officials.
He cited the prolonged absence of some officials who continued receiving salaries, while commending Sen. Jinggoy Estrada for voluntarily requesting that his salary be withheld after he could no longer attend Senate sessions.
Tulfo said the measure aims to promote accountability and discourage habitual absenteeism among public officials.
