TULFO QUESTIONS OVP’S COSTLY SAFE HOUSE RENTAL

Senator-judge Raffy Tulfo questioned the Office of the Vice President’s P16 million spending for 34 safe houses rented for 11 days in 2022.

Tulfo compared the amount with rental rates in exclusive subdivisions, noting that the OVP spending appeared unusually high.

COA auditor Xylene Mae Del Campo said the documents submitted to auditors did not indicate the locations of the safe houses.

She added that other government agencies had not reported similarly large safe-house expenses, although the OVP spending was not flagged in COA’s audit findings.

Del Campo also said COA can independently determine whether confidential fund expenditures are lawful and properly classified.
