Senator Paolo “Bam” Aquino IV expressed support for declaring a state of national emergency to address rising oil prices and surging costs of basic commodities.
He cited the ongoing Middle East conflict as a key factor pushing the country to crisis levels.
Aquino said such a declaration would give the government broader authority to implement price controls, provide financial assistance, and support overseas Filipino workers in affected areas.
He emphasized the need to monitor the measures closely to prevent abuses and ensure aid reaches intended beneficiaries.
The senator also called for targeted assistance to transport workers, MSMEs, and vulnerable sectors to help sustain the economy amid rising prices.
