The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it has distributed over P5.65 billion in financial aid to public utility jeepney drivers nationwide.
As of April 25, more than 1.1 million drivers or about 1,130,333 beneficiaries have each received a one-time P5,000 cash assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis (AICS) program.
The aid was released in response to the impact of rising fuel prices triggered by the Middle East conflict, which pushed diesel costs above P130 per liter.
Although oil prices have recently eased with significant fuel price rollbacks, the government continues to provide support to affected drivers.
