Senator Imee Marcos has filed a bill seeking to move the November 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to October 2027, citing concerns over its clash with All Souls’ Day.
She said the schedule could discourage voter turnout due to rising travel costs and fuel prices, especially for Filipinos who need to return to their provinces to vote.
Marcos also pointed to the financial strain of holding the elections, noting the Commission on Elections’ estimated ₱16 billion budget, excluding additional government support costs.
She added that postponing the polls would allow voters more time to update registrations and help redirect public funds to more urgent needs, such as economic relief and basic services.
The senator further said the move would let Filipinos focus on All Souls’ Day observances while ensuring continuity in local governance amid economic challenges.
