Sen. Rodante Marcoleta is pushing for the immediate summoning of former speaker Martin Romualdez in the Senate’s flood control probe, citing the latter’s public remarks as a possible indication of knowledge about the alleged mastermind behind the controversy.
Marcoleta also refused to sign the Blue Ribbon committee’s partial report, warning against prematurely ending the investigation without fully examining key personalities.
However, Blue Ribbon chair Panfilo Lacson rebuked Marcoleta, stressing that Senate protocol requires invitations to House members to be coursed through the Speaker to respect interparliamentary courtesy.
Lacson maintained that the committee has followed proper procedures and cannot compel attendance without adhering to legislative traditions.
The exchange highlights tensions within the probe as lawmakers debate the pace and process of the investigation. Marcoleta insisted he would only support the report once all issues are thoroughly addressed.
