The Dapat Isa Lang Movement has launched a signature campaign aiming to gather at least seven million signatures, or 10 percent of registered voters, to push for a “genuine” anti-political dynasty law through a people’s initiative.
Former Supreme Court senior associate justice Antonio Carpio, one of the convenors, said existing bills in Congress are not enough to end political dynasties, which he blamed for corruption and control over the national budget.
The group argued that political families dominate key institutions and budget allocations, including flood control projects, which they say have resulted in massive corruption and “ghost projects.”
Under the proposal, political families would be limited to one national and one local position, with restrictions on consecutive terms and penalties for violations.
The movement plans to submit signatures to the Commission on Elections for verification, with a target referendum in 2027 ahead of the 2028 elections.
