The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) launched a revised handbook for barangay tanods to improve their role as first responders.
The handbook provides updated instructions on handling crime scenes and emphasizes their duties in gender, child protection, cultural sensitivity, and human rights.
It was developed in collaboration with the National Barangay Operations Office and the Justice Sector Coordinating Council.
The guidebook is available online for easy access.
The DILG highlighted that barangay councils are responsible for deploying tanods to maintain peace and order, and the Philippine National Police is considering involving tanods in enhanced law enforcement efforts.
