Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima has urged the government to restore the Philippines’ membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC) through House Resolution No. 1056.
She said rejoining the Rome Statute would demonstrate the country’s commitment to the rule of law, human rights, and accountability in the fight against impunity.
De Lima called on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., through the Department of Foreign Affairs, to pursue reaccession to the ICC, noting that the Philippines was a member from 2011 until its withdrawal under former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2019.
She stressed that ICC membership would strengthen public trust in justice institutions and reinforce the country’s obligations under international law.
The measure comes as the ICC continues proceedings related to Duterte’s drug war and has issued an arrest warrant for Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who remains in hiding.
