Civil society group Atin Ito is set to carry out its fourth civilian mission to the West Philippine Sea (WPS) next month, delivering food and fuel to fishermen and coastal communities in Pag-asa Island under the theme “Balik Pag-asa” (Return of Hope).
The mission aims to address rising fuel prices that threaten small-scale fishers’ livelihoods, growing Chinese espionage in the area, and alleged local officials dubbed “Tsinadors” who are accused of supporting China’s narrative.
Co-convenors Rafaela David and Edicio dela Torre emphasized that regular civilian presence reinforces the Philippines’ sovereignty and asserts that the Kalayaan Island Group is part of the national territory.
The initiative will also include a town hall meeting in Puerto Princesa on March 23, bringing together lawmakers, local officials, fisherfolk, and civil society representatives to discuss WPS issues.
Atin Ito called on the government, businesses, and citizens to support the mission through fuel subsidies and essential supplies, highlighting the West Philippine Sea as a critical source of food security and a symbol of Filipino sovereignty.
